Slept in till 7:30… Much needed! Oatmeal and coffee for breakfast to get a quicker start for a big day of hiking.
First we headed out the Dry Creek Road and down the 4WD dirt track to the trailhead leading to Devils Bridge. We stopped a little over a half mile short of the trailhead as we were concerned about how rough the road was. Better to be safe than sorry!
It was already getting pretty hot as we made our way up the steepening trail. The closer you get the steeper it gets… Till you are crawling up the red rock on all 4’s! But whoa! What a payoff when you get to the top!
Harmony braved walking out to the center of the the bridge so that I could get her photo, but regardless of how much coaxing there was no way in hell I was going out on Devils Bridge!
The hike back to the Jeep was draining in the 90+ degree heat and the AC was very welcomed!
We the made our way over to Fay Canyon for the 2nd hike of the day. My expectations for this hike were not very high but I was pleasantly surprised at the beauty of the canyon. Reminded me quite a bit of the Needles Section in Canyonlands National Park.
When we reached the end of the maintained trail, we took a break to consume some much needed food and hydrate.
Harmony then said we should go up the climbers route along the base of this monolithic rock formation to get a view down canyon… And what a view it was! Absolutely incredible! So glad I pushed myself a little bit harder to get up there!
After returning to the Jeep, we tried going out to the Palatki Ruins but didn’t make it in time for the last tour of the day. Instead, all we were able to see was the petroglyphs and pictographs at the site. Ranger Bob was a wealth of knowledge on the subject and history of the site.
We then returned to town for a street taco dinner at 89Agave… Yummy! And finished the day strolling some shops.
Completely hammered from a very full day we retired to camp for the night…
