The West Fork

Up at 5:40 to get an early start on the day… We were out of camp at close to 6 headed to the Coffee Pot for a breakfast cooked to perfection!

After a quick stop to ice up the coolers, we were back up Oak Creek Canyon to the West Fork trailhead for the days hike.

The West Fork trail is a 6.6 mile round trip hike in an intimate canyon that is heavily wooded with many steam crossings. We not only would enjoy the shaded woods but also the cooler temps at the higher altitude.

It was a beautiful hike with views of towering red rock cliffs above a babbling stream reflecting the surroundings.

The turnaround spot is very cool! The rock on both sides of the stream is sculptured into an almost tunnel like form! Very much like The Subway in Zion National Park.

We spent a few short minutes there photographing before turning around for the return hike. Stopping at a particularly spectacular spot for lunch on a perfectly flat boulder that had peeled off the side of the cliff eons ago in the middle of the creek.

Once back at camp we decided on an early dinner and grilled up some delicious black and blue burgers with sides of mashed potatoes and green beans.

Then we headed back towards town with stops at a canyon shop to look at jewelry and get Pooh Bears photo taken by the Sedona sign.

Back in Sedona I had to stop by the Harley Davidson store to pick up a t-shirt and we had some Prickly Pear ice cream. Then went to the Oak Creek Brewery where Harmony treated me to a delicious amber ale.

Exhausted from the days hike and the cumulative effect over the past 5 days of adventuring, I decided against the idea of hiking out to photograph Cathedral Rock at sunset… Opting to kick back at camp and talk of stories of other grand adventures before retiring for the night…
