The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad – Day 4
Tha day was moody and very wet! But somehow added to the experience! The clouds hung low, mysteriously shrouding the towering mountains…
The ride is almost 4 hours each way with a 2 hour stop in Silverton. The train was as nostalgic as you could imagine! The chugging of the steam locomotive engine and occasional blowing of the whistle echoing down the canyon. The smell of the burning coal and cinders that would sometimes find their way into our eyes…
I was grinning from ear to ear most of the time as I hung out of the open gondola car shooting photos of the scenery and the train as it went around the corners of the mountain…
We spent the time in Silverton having a burger for lunch and then strolling the shops for souvenirs… Of course I found mine at the Harley Davidson store!
Back in Durango it was raining steadily and we got soaked riding the Harley back to the hotel.
We settled in for the night and ordered a pizza in so we didn’t have to go out. We were bushed from the long day. One of those special days that will stand the test of time and not be forgotten!
Tomorrow, The Million Dollar Highway…
