The Million Dollar Highway – Day 5

The Million Dollar Highway from Durango to Ouray… The weather was perfect and the scenery amazing! Almost forgot how majestic the mountains are along this stretch of road.

We took our sweet time stopping often to take photos of the grandiose scenery laid out before us. Unfortunately we had missed the peak of color along this stretch by a week or so… Most of the Aspen had already dropped their leaves, but some patches were still to be found.

We checked into the hotel in Ouray, had dinner at the Ouray Brewery, strolled the shops and shared an ice cream cone before settling in for the night.

We left Ouray as another storm began to brew. There were very strong gusty winds that threatened to blow us off the side of the highway. And as we gained some altitude going over the Dallas Divide it was raining very hard and began to turn to hail. Fortunately this did not last long and we settled in to a nice ride back to Moab and our last night of the tour…
