The Tree On The Rocks

So… Here is the first shoot after moving to Reno. Harmony and I decided to adventure out and take a scouting trip in our new surroundings. Actually I had a pretty good idea where I wanted to go… Harmony had not ever been to Lake Tahoe so I thought, what better time than now to initiate her with a jaunt up to a location I had been wanting to shoot… Bonsai Rock. We timed it for the magic hour but knew the cloud cover would not provide a colorful sunset, but that was okay as I was mainly wanting to scout out the area for future shoots.

Google Maps got us right to the trailhead. But not having been here before we ended up on a trail that did not lead to Bonsai Rock but a bit to the south. After not finding the rock we turned back to the north and could see where it was in the distance, but it would take a bit more time and effort than the daylight we had left. So I decided to make the most out of the best location we had happened upon… The Tree On The Rocks.

This is a very small series of 9 photographs I processed out as monochrome. The first few were hand held as we made our way down to the shore and the balance on my tripod with neutral density and circular polarizer filters to extend out the exposure between 2-5 seconds… Enough to smooth out the ripples in the water…
