Mesquite Flats Sand Dunes

Continued from previous post…

We left Dantes View at 4pm, headed for the Mesquite Flats Sand Dunes for the Golden Hour. Following the advice I had found online, we found a spot a mile or so from the Mesquite Flats Sand Dunes parking lot and hiked out across the barren desert towards the far western edge of the dunes in search of pristine, footprint free dunes.

The hike out to the edge of the dunes was about 1.25 miles but turned out to be great advice! As there was not a single footprint to be seen except the ones that we were creating. The low angled light from the setting sun was really good for photographing the dunes… Unlimited compositions to be found, playing off the light and shadows! The hardest part was to not walk into a possible composition and ruin it with our own footprints.

We aimlessly wandered the dunes for about an hour until close to sunset and then started the Death March back across the seemingly endless barren desert back to the car. It was another amazing day out and very photographically productive!

Sadly this brings to a close another great adventure… So many great places we visited and many memories to look back on. Until next time… Enjoy!

    1. Thank you Taylor! The sand dunes are definitely one of my favorite subjects to photograph. I love the play on light and shadows and all the patterns!
