This post combines the next two days of our Oregon Coast trip… After leaving Yachats we continued south on the 101 and explored the Seal Rock State Recreation Area. Here we found some really cool rock formations/sea stacks and tide pools to investigate. Note to self… This would make for a great sunset location under the right conditions.
Continuing on our journey we visited the Haceta Head Lighthouse. It was built in 1894 at a stunning location atop a tall rocky headland. It is 56 feet tall and has the brightest light of all lighthouses on the Oregon coast which can cast its beam 21 nautical miles out to sea!
The following day we got a distant view of the Cape Arago Lighthouse, the area was closed off presumably due to COVID. And then on to Shore Acres State Park. This location is one of the best spots to view the monstrous waves that pummel the coastline during winter storms. For us it was simply a great view, which I had to get a closer look at and photograph by hopping the short stone wall on the edge of the cliff. Shortly thereafter, I got in trouble and was chased of by the park ranger! Here we were able to view some sea lions sunbathing on an offshore rock and listen to their constant barking…
Keep em coming, Kennard! You are an incredible photographer, and quite a good journalist. ❤️
Thank you Peggy! Still have several more posts coming up on the Oregon coast trip…
Your trip to coast was dramatically beautiful. I am so glad you are sharing your journal and photos with us. I feel I was there with you.
Julia experienced one of those storms you spoke of last year while sailing from Washington down to Ensenada. Wild story. She will have to tell it to you one day. It does explain the beautiful coastline. Love to you and Harmony.
Thank you Carlin! And yes I would love to hear Julia’s story!
