Coastal Fog

We left the cute little town of Bandon headed for our next night in Gold Beach. We had planned to check out the Cape Blanco Lighthouse, but were thwarted by the park being closed, presumably due to COVID… Curses! That damned pandemic!

Continuing south we stopped at Port Orford Heads State Park and took a short hike to some beautiful vistas and got to view some sea lions sunbathing on an offshore rock.

At the uncrowded Arizona Beach we had a peaceful lunch sitting on some driftwood watching the seabirds bathing in a small body of water. We tried stopping at several other viewpoints, but the fog was so thick that you could barely see the hand in front of your face!

Having a bit of time to kill before we could check into our next hotel, we explored a bit south of Gold Beach. We stopped at the Pistol River State Scenic Viewpoint area where we walked a bit on the beach in the fog that had lifted a bit. I had some fun photographing the gulls standing on the beach there.

After getting settled into our hotel, we enjoyed a dinner overlooking the small harbor where the Rogue River empties into the Pacific…

The following day was our last on the Oregon Coast for this trip. Again the fog was thick enough to cut with a knife! The highlights of the day were Harris Beach, the Redwoods National Park (which will be the final post of this series) and we ended the day exploring Patricks Point State Park before our stay in Eureka…
