Grindelwald

Thun to Grindelwald

We took the Berner Oberland boat across Thunersee (Lake Thun) to Interlaken West and then a bus to Interlaken Ost where we jumped on a train to Grindelwald. The boat made numerous stops in small ports across the lake. It was a very relaxing and peaceful way to travel to Interlaken and was included in our Swiss Travel Pass with no additional cost!

Grindelwald was every bit as beautiful as I had imagined it would be. I was giddy with excitement to see The Eiger in person for the first time! The mountain towering over town is pretty much always in view. As a young mountaineer, I had read several novels of the historical first ascents and tragedies on the infamous Nordwand (North Face) and after all these years still remembered many of the stories.

We settled in to our cute little hotel room at the Hotel Tschuggen (with an amazing view of The Eiger right from our balcony), rested for a short bit and headed out for dinner and supplies at the local Co-op.

Back at the hotel, Harmony hand washed our clothes which should get us through the balance of the trip. Then relaxed the evening away watching and photographing The Eiger through the Golden Hour.

Another big day tomorrow… The Jungfraujoch (Top of the Europe)!
