Here we are again, with the opportunity to start another new year From The Beginning.
It is a time to reflect on all we have experienced, accomplished, and endured over the past year. My path last year was a very rocky one. One with many personal challenges, but also one with great blessings.
As I look back on where my journey has led me, I find that I not only experienced many fantastic adventures, but I can see that I have grown as an artist and more importantly, as a person. Life can and will throw many things at us which are out of our control. The key is how we handle them, our reaction to these tests is intertwined with the very fabric of who we are. We must continually aim for higher ground. We only get this one chance to get it right and achieve our vision of who we wish to be and what we want to accomplish. We must stay true to ourselves, and not allow life’s current or what others think we should do to carry us away from our vision.
As I journey into the new year, I will strive to grow and improve, not only as an artist, but as a person as well. And will try not to lose focus on what it is I want to accomplish and who it is I want to be. Life is too short to just jump into the current and let it take you where it will. It is so easy to allow life’s current to sweep us away. We get so wrapped up in the day to day mundane, that we forget what I feel is most important…to enjoy life! The current is going to carry us away, that we can be sure of. But what we must understand, is that we have some control over what we do while riding the rapids. We all have the ability to swim for the shore. So get out and take a look at what it is you are passing by. This moment, here and now, is all we have. Understand that and make the most of it, because it will be gone before you even realize it.
For me, the new year is off to a very good start. New Years Day on Antelope Island in The Great Salt Lake. Started with a stroll out the point, on the edge of Bridger Bay, in search of the seagull rookery that I had found last summer. Not a single bird to be found. Maybe they all go south for the winter. I sure would if all it took was to spread my wings and go.
The main reason to venture out to the island was to witness the sunset. And what a pretty sunset it was. I hiked to the top of Buffalo Point, several hundred feet above the water. The high vantage point provided outstanding views of the lake and surrounding mountains. Conditions were calm, with fantastic light, and the water surface was very smooth reflecting all the glorious color. I shot well into the afterglow of twilight before scrambling down the hill and back to the car. Absolutely could not ask for a better start to get it right From The Beginning.
