Eilean Donan Castle

The Great Scottish Adventure

Day 15
Eilean Donan Castle

Torrential rains and gale force winds rocked the campervan all night long. More of the same come morning. We slept in and got a leisurely start to the day as all we had planned for the day was the Eilean Donan Castle.

The relentless heavy rain of the last several days had created raging waterfalls pouring down off the mountains everywhere you looked!

We stopped in Broadford for lunch and Harmony shopped for gifts for the kids.

Then on to the Eilean Donan Castle. A very picturesque castle sitting on a tidal island. It has been featured in many films and TV shows. When we arrived, the winds were at hurricane force with sideways rain. We toured the castle which was amazing with a long interesting history. And then I attempted to get a few photos with the camera which was quite difficult under the raging conditions.

We made it to our camp in Reraig for the night around 4pm. Exhausted from battling the elements, we napped for an hour or so before getting a delicious dinner from an on-site vendor.

A round of Yahtzee, and then the usual backing up photos and charging batteries before retiring for the night.

Photos in this gallery are from both the afternoon during the torrential rain and the following morning after leaving camp.

Tomorrow has a pretty full itinerary with a good deal of driving so we will need to get an earlier start…
