Dunvegan Castle/Neist Point

The Great Scottish Adventure

Day 14
Dunvegan Castle/Neist Point

Breakfast and showers before breaking camp in Portree. It has been a great basecamp for the past 5 nights. A bit melancholy, as we are going to miss the northern Isle Of Skye, such a beautiful place!

We stopped at the Co-Op on our way out of Portree to stock up on supplies before heading to Dunvegan Castle.

The castle was first built in the 13th century and is the seat of the Clan MacLeod’s. A pretty cool place in another beautiful setting. Lots of interesting old artifacts and old paintings. After the castle we stopped in the town of Dunvegan to check out a local artists work who we had seen in a shop in Portree. We chose a couple of pieces her artwork to purchase and display at home.

Then on to Neist Point. The drive out to the point was pretty exciting. Steep and winding single-track road, sure to get the adrenaline pumping! What an incredible location! The seaside cliffs are huge and the lighthouse out at the end of a peninsula, such a sight to see. The lighthouse was built in 1909. Of course I had to capture some images with all the lenses I have. We’ll have to see how they come out. Not the ideal time of day for this location, it was near midday and the light was pretty harsh and flat. But we’ll just have to make due with what we’re given. I’d love to come back someday for a sunrise!

Tonight we stay at the Kinloch Campsite right on the shore of Loch Dunvegan! The view right out the back windows of the camper are facing the bay. Pretty sweet!

Tomorrows itinerary is pretty light, so we have decided to sleep in and take it easy before heading out…
